Will it hurt?
Reflexology should not hurt. The pressure applied is firm, but not painful. No tools or instruments are used. Occasionally an area of the foot will be found to be tender. This often shows an issue in another part of the body and will be treated.
On your first visit, your health and lifestyle will be discussed. Based on this, your preferences and the presenting conditions, a suitable treatment plan will then be determined.
The treatment begins by examining the feet and a providing a gentle massage. Pressure will be applied to the feet in a systematic sequence. During this time any specific changes in the texture and feel in the feet will be noted by the reflexologist. This may indicate issues for the corresponding organ or systems of the body associated with that area of the foot. Careful application of pressure to these areas can relieve the tension and blockages. Following the treatment a final foot massage is performed to calm and relax the body. The treatment will usually last between 45 minutes to one hour.
Aftercare
Most people note a sense of well being and relaxation following a treatment. However some people also report a feeling of lethargy and nausea. This is caused by toxins in the body being release during the treatment and should be taken as a good sign the body is healing itself. It is important to drink plenty of water in the days following a treatment. This will help to flush any toxins out of the body and reduce any subsequent ill effects.
